The AyrMesh HubDuo, AyrMesh Hub2x2 and AyrMesh Hub2T are the current models of the AyrMesh Hub, originally introduced in 2010, and we have a simple comparison chart and a more in-depth article about the differences. The AyrMesh Hubs are normal WiFi access points with meshing capability. This allows them to communicate with other AyrMesh Hubs to potentially extend your network for miles. The key differences between them are, briefly:
- The HubDuo is a 2×2 dual-band 802.11ac access point. It is the most practical Hub for most farms, but especially for farms with compact central operations that need more intensive WiFI. It offers extremely fast WiFi close to the Hub along with long range at reduced speed. It also features a “close mode” which allows AyrMesh HubDuos to be placed as close as a few hundred yards apart where needed.
- The Hub2x2 is a 2×2 802.11n access point, which delivers outstanding range and very good bandwidth. It is recommended especially as a Gateway Hub where the nearest other Hubs are more than a mile away; it should usually be at least a mile from the nearest Hub to prevent over-saturation of the Hub’s signals (to each other).
- The Hub2T is a 1×1 80211n access point, which optimizes power usage over bandwidth. The Hub2T also uses much less power than the Hub2x2 (~4 Watts vs. over 8 watts) but maintains the same output power, so it should be placed at least a mile away from other Hubs.
