How do I get started with an AyrMesh network?
Depending on the area you wish to cover with WiFi, start with an Ayrstone AyrMesh Hub to extend WiFi Internet access across your yard and up to half a mile away – connect the AyrMesh Hub to your Internet-connected router using an Ethernet cable. Mount the AyrMesh Hub up high (for best performance, 25′ above any obstructions) and in the clear. Add additional AyrMesh Hubs up to 2.5 miles apart to extend your WiFi coverage up to 7.5 miles in all directions. See Designing your Network for more information
Will my existing router work with the AyrMesh system?
The AyrMesh Hub will work with any router that will provide an IP address to the Gateway Hub via DHCP. Almost any router will work with the AyrMesh Hub without modification. Devices attached to the AyrMesh Hub will appear as if they are connected directly to your router, so you can easily “port forward” to those devices to make them available from the Internet.
How do I build out my AyrMesh network?
If you have started with just an AyrMesh Hub as a Gateway, then extend the network outside with AyrMesh Remote Hubs and Receivers. AyrMesh Hubs will extend the reach of your WiFi network, as well as providing Ethernet access for non-WiFi devices. AyrMesh Receivers just use the WiFi from AyrMesh Hub to provide Ethernet connections into the network. See Designing your Network for more ideas.
How do I bring my AyrMesh network into my buildings?
There are good directions here.
How do I know if my Internet equipment will work?
Almost any “always on” internet connection will work with the AyrMesh System. Most Internet Service Providers (ISP) provide some piece of Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to which you connect a computer or a router with an Ethernet cable. If you have this type of set up it is highly likely your Internet equipment is compatible to the AyrMesh system. Ayrstone Productivity has a 90-day return policy (30 days full refund, 60 days 15% restocking fee), so you can try the AyrMesh WiFi system at no risk.
All of the LAN ports on my router are in use. Can I add LAN ports?
All you need is an inexpensive Ethernet switch – we sell the AyrMesh Switch. A switch is simply a box that multiplies the number of LAN ports available in your network – think of it as the networking equivalent of an outlet strip for electricity. Switches are handy if your router’s LAN ports are full, for instance, and you need to plug in your AyrMesh Gateway Hub. Simply disconnect one device temporarily, plug in the switch, then plug that device and the AyrMesh Gateway Hub into the Ethernet switch. It will work exactly as if it was plugged directly into the router. A switch is also handy if you put an AyrMesh Remote Hub somewhere and want to connect more than one device to it: simply plug an Ethernet switch into the AyrMesh Remote Hub and you have several more ports for wired devices on your AyrMesh network. Using a router, the Ayrstone AyrMesh network, and some Ethernet switches can enable you to have a very capable, flexible network for your home and business, saving you time and money.
